In the wake of recent events—the bombing in Iran and the mounting tension around the globe—many of us have felt waves of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty.
People are stockpiling supplies, withdrawing cash, and bracing themselves for “what’s next,” much like during the pandemic. While it’s wise to prepare our homes for practical needs, our greatest need is for the peace that only God can give.
God's Everlasting Peace
Our greatest need is to remember that we are not alone. We have not been responsible for our lives and protection this far; it has been God keeping us safe before we ever knew what danger was. He still watches over us today.
Jesus promised a peace unlike anything the world can offer:
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, ESV)
This peace is not merely an absence of conflict. It is a deep, unshakable calm that protects our inner lives, even when external circumstances threaten to overwhelm us.
The Nature of God's Peace
It’s the type of peace that allows you to sleep in the middle of a storm. It helps you rest easy while the world breaks down. You can do this because you know that the God who upholds all of creation with only His word watches over every aspect that concerns you.
He cares enough to know the number of hairs on your head, how many breaths you will take before you go home to be with Him, and the exact number of cells in your body at any given moment. This divine knowledge brings comfort and reassurance.
Our Eternal Home
No matter what happens on earth, believers have a secure, eternal dwelling:
“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1, ESV)
This “house not made with hands” reminds us that our ultimate security is not found in banks or bunkers but in the promise of heaven itself. Our hopes should not rest on fragile, temporary things, but rather on the eternal truth that God has prepared a place for us.
The Assurance of Eternal Life
In Christ, we have the assurance of eternal life. This promise allows us to face the uncertainties of life without fear. We can trust that our real home awaits us.
The Lord Our Keeper
We serve a God who personally watches over us:
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2, ESV)
He is our guide, our protector, and our defender. In Him alone can we place our trust. Amid the chaos, we must remember that the Lord is steadfast. He will not abandon us, even in dark times.
Finding Refuge in God
When life feels overwhelming, run to Him. Find refuge in His promises. He is a stronghold for the weary and a refuge for the frightened.
The Sovereignty of the True God
In prayer, the Lord drew my attention to Jeremiah 10, where false idols are exposed, and the living God is exalted:
9. “Cadres of craftsmen are they, each with his idol; a smooth stone is their teaching; they pray to a god that cannot save. 10. But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and an everlasting King. At his wrath the earthquakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation. 11. Thus, you shall say to them, ‘The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and under the heavens.’” (Jeremiah 10:9–11, ESV)
God is dismantling every false security—our money, our homes, and our social systems—to remind us that only He holds true power.
Trusting in God's Sovereignty
When we acknowledge God’s sovereignty, we can lay down our burdens. We can trust that His plans are far greater than ours. He is actively working for our good.
Security in His Presence
The world may tremble, governments may falter, and markets may crash, but those who trust in the Lord stand firm. When we fix our hope on Him, we find:
No sinking sand beneath us
No reason to fear—even amid noise and pestilence
No ultimate defeat, for our King has already won the victory
“In [God] we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28, ESV).
He has paid the down payment on our eternal life, and He will return for us. Our hope is anchored in Him alone.
Choosing Hope Over Fear
Fear is a deadly enemy. It paralyzes, divides, and draws us away from God. Yet, the fear of reverence—the “fear of the Lord”—is pure and life-giving:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10, ESV).
As we see the world around us shaking, let us not succumb to panic. Instead, let us embrace the Spirit of hope, remembering that:
Our peace is a divine gift, not a worldly commodity.
Our home is eternal, not subject to earthly decay.
Our God is sovereign, not a weak idol.
In these days, may the trembling of the nations be met by the confident calm of His saints as we rest in the unbreakable peace of our King.
Let us hold onto our hope and spread the message of God’s love and peace to those around us. Together, we can create a community built on faith, strength, and resilience in the face of any storm. Share your story of finding peace and help encourage others to trust in the goodness of God.
